Subject: How do I add the HTML using MicroSoft Front Page?
From: Cris Draper
cris@utahoutdoors.com
Q: I am trying to add the HTML fragment sent via e-mail to my web site. I am using MicroSoft Front Page to build my site with. How do I get it to allow me to edit the raw HTML?
A: When using MicroSoft Front Page to insert the HTML fragment required for membership in our webring programs, into your web site, you need to insert it as HTML. To do this, locate a menu option that will allow you to "Insert HTML". Depending on what version of Front Page you are using this option will be found normally along the top file menu options for Front Page.
Once you have located the option to "Insert HTML" select it. This will bring up a smaller window you can then paste the HTML that we provided when you signed up for membership into this window. Once pasted, click ok and save the page. Transfer the page to your web site storage area on-line and you should be set.
If you encounter problems, please feel free to contact me for further help.
This was also submitted by a new member!
Hey guys... here's an easy solution for posting HTML into Front Page:
Copy the code
Open NotePad (Start - Accessories - NotePad)
Paste
Re-select the code from the NotePad and COPY it again
Go back to your web page that you are editing
In Front Page's Normal view, put your cursor where you want the banner
Now switch to HTML view and PASTE (don't move your cursor - just paste it)
Switch back to Normal
Voila - your code is now applied! (you may have to save and preview (while online) to see the code active, but it is there.
Cheers, SoCalTed

From: Joseph Almeida jr.
RIBUCKMASTER@aol.com
Q: I was just wondering if we will still be getting the weekly updates?
A: Joseph,
To begin with, not on a weekly basis. We are still working on some of the e-mail functions, as well as adding in additional features for the weekly newsletter, such as a new layout, HTML based newsletters, 20% over wholesale outdoor related product offers, and much much more!
UPDATE! Weekly e-mail newsletters have returned!
We have expanded the program and will soon be making these informative newsletters available to non members as well! Stay tuned for details, or drop me an e-mail at ringmaster@outdoorrings.com and tell me to add you to the current list until the new system is in place.
I am very interested in finding out the members interests so if you have comments, please send them in!

From: Brian Jones
kwweb@lantic.net
Q: My Website uses Frames, what code can I add to the new OutdoorRing fragment code to allow the user to break out of the Frame when they click on the "next" or the other links?
A: Brian,
We are working on that problem in house right now. As more people move to the new system, we will be able to test different framed sites to find the best solution. We hope to make our scripting handle such problems seamlessly on our end andnot have to bother members with these issues.
Thanks for the concerns.

From: Lee Braaten
member4nwtf@aol.com
Q: I too am having problems with your HTML code. I am using FrontPage as well, but have no problem inserting the HTML, however when viewed, the code shows, not the web ring icon. I am pasting the code INTO the HTML, not on the WYSIWYG editor.
A: Lee,
When you are insert the HTML, is it bringing up a small pop up window for you to insert the HTML into? It must be done inside the main program of Front Page. If you look along the top menu options, depending on the version of FP, you should see an option that says "Insert" select it and then select "Advanced", then select "HTML" and it will bring up a small window for you to paste the HTML into.
Let me know if this helps.

From: Webmaster
danny@guided-hunting.com
Q: Do I use the exact same code fragment if I want to place it on more than one page, or do I have to change the ID somehow?
A: Danny,
It is not required to put the fragment on more than one page of your site. However you may do so if you wish to and no changes are required within the HTML coding we provided for you. It will display correctly no matter how many pages you place it on!

From: Bill Puckett

Q: Ive had your banner on my site now for awhile and have no clue as to what ring my site is listed in. The banner is for the international ring but it is not listed there. Ive also seen no traffic to my site from this ring. Can you clarify all of this for me please.
Thanx
A: I add sites about every 4 to 5 days to the ring. Your site had not been added to the active membership of the web ring. I have now personally visited your web site and approved the membership for your site. You should now be able to find you site using the several search options found by clicking on any web ring member fragment and clicking on the Ring Hub link.
Thanks for the support of the programs and hope that helps clear it up.

Q: I have no problem adding HTML fragments. Just need to know where on your site I can find it
A: Chef Dave,
If you have already signed up for an account, you can get a copy of the HTML inside the back office once you log into the system using the username and password you joined with. If not, then once you sign up for the program you will be sent an e-mail containing the code, or again log into the back office anytime to get a copy. Let me know if you have questions.

Each web ring application for an different web ring must be completed with a new username. This is set up this way to keep statistics for each membership seperate from the other web ring applications you have submitted.

Subject: Where is my listing????
From: Elizabeth
finandfurguideservice@yahoo.com
Q: I put your banner on my website and received your confirmation...now where is my web site listed on YOURS????
A: Elizabeth,
If you will go to the Ring Hub link within the fragment you host on your web site, and click on it. You will go to the Member Index for the web ring that you are a member of. On this Member Index or Ring Hub page, you will have several options to find your listing. You may find it by search either the site title or keywords within the description you have lsited for your site. You may select listings by A-Z Title listings, or you may also see what site are most popular within our program.
All members listings can be found this way and the Member Index for that ring is available from any active members Ring Hub link hosted on a member site.
Hope this helps!

You may place the web ring fragment where ever it is best suited on your site. We do however, link our program into the particular page that we find the fragment hosted on!

We are currently working on a solution that will aloow members to manage their web ring memberships from one central location, but for the time being multiple memberships do require individual log ins for our tracking system to correctly manage each members site.

Q: I joined the hunting trails webring and placed the link on my page. I have now signed up for the Nevada hunting trails webring and I noticed their link is slighly different. Do I have to place both links on my page or will one do?
I've also accidentally signed up twice for the Nevada trails with a different logon name.
A: Leslie,
Each web ring program runs independent from other web rings. To gain membership in multiple web rings, you must place a fragment for each program you wish to join on your home page. Each ring generates it's own targeted traffic and will bring different people to your web site through the memberships.
No worries on signing up twice, just use one of the log in username and password for the account and do not worry about the duplicate.

How do I update the ring to point to the correct location?
A: P. C.,
You can easily just log into your back office area and edit the details for your site. One of the best things about the new style fragment is is will go anywhere, move sites url's, e-mail, etc, just by editing the information in the Back Office Area or your account.

Q: We had our website designed by a "professional," and they were supposed to include links to certain webrings. However, they have not been very cooperative and neglected to do so, despite our repeated requests. Is there any way for me to do this myself? A: If you can tell me what software you will be using to edit the pages with, either on-line on on your local computer, I will do me best to help walk you through it.

From: John Bodovsky
bigbexotics@htcomp.net
Q: You sent an email saying that you placed our site inactive because we removed the html for the web ring fragment on our page. We have NOT removed it, and it still shows up on our page at http://www.
When I logged on, it correctly shows that your spider found it on that page.
What is the problem and can you change our status back to active?
Thank you,
A: Dear Sir,
In an effort to make our Web Ring program one of he best available on the web, we have installed an update to our program that randomly travels the web rings and checks for possible broken links. When a possible broken link is found, the site is automatically put into an inactive status until a staff member rechecks the web site. This ensures that the web ring will be more intact for all members and traffic does not get lost in between one members site to another.
We hope this new improvement will help generate more targeted traffic to your site and hope you understand the small inconvience this may cause.

Q: Hello ,
I just receieved an E-mail saying my staus is disconnected now . I was told I do not have the link anymore on my site .
It has been there since I got the code and have never touched it since . I just checked and it is still there . I replaced it with a fresh one and updated . Why would I be told I took your banner off of my site when I didnt ? I hope this is all good now .
A: We are working on a piece of new technology that checks all members sites to ensure they still have the web ring fragment on their web site. Often a web site designed in frames will cause the problem, or if you have recently moved the fragment to a different page within your web site. This will cause our spider to temporarily place your web sites membership into an inactiver status until I can come and personally check the web site.
Please forgive us for any inconvenience we may cause, but it is to better the program for you! This new improvement in our web ring programs here will increase the integrity of the web ring members and traffic going through the ring.
Thanks for the support of the program. I am working hard on MANY new updates that will bring you some of the best features available included with your membership, on the Internet.
This new addition will be randomly checking for possible broken links in the web ring and make sure that is stays in a full circle, without broken links for each web ring! Please know if you receive one of these e-mail, someone will personally be checking your site and contacting you!
Thanks again for your understanding and support!

A: If you can get the HTML that you received when you applied for membership in the web ring program, to your group web site, yes. You can join. It does require that the HTML be added and in working order before I can approve membership.

A: Raphael,
To see your listing in the web ring, click on the Ring Hub link from within the fragment hosted on your web site. From there you are given several options to find your listing from A-Z listing, to search for the site name or description, or by most popular ithin our program. As for traffic through this program, there is really no way for you to track using traditional methods, what traffic came from our program to your web site as any Member could send the traffic to you through the web ring program. It will not show up in your log files or web site stats as you seeing the traffic directly from us or a URL we own. Rather this would show as you getting traffic from that individual member when someone travels to your web site using our system. We do offer stats for the Membership as we can track things from our end as we would know both who the traffic came from when someone clicked a link in the fragment, and who it is being directed to using our system.
Hope that helps clear it up for you and thanks for the support of the Web Ring.

A: Some free hosting services, will not allow you to add java script to their web pages. I would recommend contacting freewebs.com and asking them if they allow the use of java script and ask them for information on how to add the fragment to the web site.

Q: How do I get the different fragments for each ring. I already belong to the Hunting Trail and want to join the Bowhunting Trail but can't seem to sign up for that one.
A: Each web ring is its own unique program and requires that you fill out a membership application for each ring you wish to be a member in. Usernames and passwords for each account must be different so that our system can track traffic for each membership.
